What’s going on around here?

I like to envision the way things could be.  Getting to what I envision, that’s another thing altogether.  So I’m back to a basic theme here on my blog, very basic.  It’s the thematic theme by Ian Stewart {http://themeshaper.com/}, designed to be a starting point for the development of a good WordPress theme.  You see, I was first turned onto the power of WordPress back in the spring of 2009 through a friend of mine, Ben Stewart {benstewart.com}.  But in the time between then and now I have learned little in the way of actually designing a blog, little less actually keeping it up to date.  I am not an artist, nor a graphic designer.  I love technology and software and have been able to learn enough to be dangerous with Photoshop and Illustrator.

So, as of late, I have been working towards getting back to the basics and building from there.  I learn by doing and thus I will build through trial and error.  So in case you happened to stumble upon this site and happened to read this blog, you now know what is going on around here.

For the glory

So I’ve been thinking of how terrible of a blog I just posted not too long ago. It was the, “oh I don’t know what to say so I’ll just let come what may and hopefully it’ll make sense” post. I don’t have any high expectations of a high readership here, but I do hope to write with much meaning. I have a cousin, Tyson, who has written on his blog over the course of the last few years in such a way that one is humbled by his words. It’s not just that he writes well, but that his experience of life and how he has glorified God in it all is incredible. It has always interested me how those who have lost the most and have the most right to anger are the ones who reflect Jesus more than anyone else. You can check out Ty’s journey at tysonaschliman.blogspot.com and his new journey with his soon to be wife at http://web.me.com/kateandty/Kate%26Ty/Blog/Blog.html.

So with that I am hoping that I can attempt to be a little more real and honest in these blogs so that in some way I may glorify God the way Ty does.

Long time, no blog

I don’t blog much. I’ve even said that before. But now with an iPhone and some wordpress 2.0 app work, I may just be able to make this a more often endeavor. You see, my job on the road is to be the catch all, letting everyone know what’s happening, make sure they get there, mix the show and set up and tear down merch. In the madness inspiration may come but im usually too tired to write it out. I wouldn’t change a thing in my life and work though. I love the guys I’m out with and the life I get to live. Some days it’s hard to see the mission from my point of view, but often I’m reminded of how much I’m learning and the awesome experience I am gaining in the process. Smokey, our tour LD this fall said it best, “it’s not about how much money you made, it’s about the stories you get to tell.”

I like that because the pressure of finances continues to weigh me down as loans from Belmont stare me in the face every month. I have never gone wihout in my life and God continually holds me up. He always takes care of my every need.

Those are the big life thoughts right now, all wrapped under the umbrella of my upcoming marriage to Miss Hannah Miller. Life is getting much more real as it shifts from me to us. The amount of responsibility and leadership marriage will take has only just started to work it’s way into how I live my life.

Just saw the movie Up…

And whoa, it was really really good.  Not at all what I was expecting.  No spoilers to follow…

I was so incredibly surprised by the movie’s depth, both in building its characters and how it spoke of family life.  It had Hannah and I both in tears at moments, and others we were laughing uncontrollably.  She and I went to see it in 3D, which was a pretty cool addition to the regular movie deal.  I highly recommend you go check it out, especially if you have a loved one that can share it with you.

The movie was great, but I do have to say that the best part of the night had to of been when I figured out that the armrest next to me folded up, allowing for a bit of snuggling…gasp, I know, who would have imagined Kurt to be a snuggler…

Late Night…

Just got in from a crazy late night show in Muskegon, MI.  Great show, cold cold cold though.  I think I’m beginning to love a good analog Midas console.  The head amps just sound great.  Time go head to sleep and get up to drive back to Nashville tomorrow.

Sidenote, tomorrow starts the first day that Hannah will live in the apartment complex right behind mine.  I’m just a little bit excited.  Okay, that’s a lie, I’m super super excited.  No more 20 minute drive to go hang out with my girl!  Yea buddy!

Ok, goodnight :)

iPhone Mania, Storm Forced Acoustic Performances, and the Swine Flu

Backstage at Central Catholic

Backstage at Central Catholic

Lots happened a few weekends ago.  Here’s a post I started but never got published…

The Toledo show with Sanctus went great, lots of people came out to support the Clark family (who were finalists for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition but didn’t get it).

Here’s a quick pic:

The night lasted a long time, I finally got home around midnight, stayed up till 2 am hoping that Hannah could get her webcam working for a quick skype session, but no luck there.  So I folded some merch shirts and went to sleep for 3 hours.  Woke up at 5:15 and met up with the guys for a flight to Dallas.

Dallas had a promising start, but wound up being a little bit crazy.  Got set up and sound checked, gloomy skies all around, but the show started on time.  We were the opener, to be followed by Flyleaf, Francis Chan, Kirk Cameron, Crowder and Tomlin.  The guys were just getting to the meat of their 50 min set when the Emcee came back out on stage to let the crowds know that a severe storm was 20 mins away.  We all evacuated the outdoor parking lot to the high school, where, with a little coaxing, Matt rounded out the cut set with an unamplified, acoustic “Whatever You’re Doing (Something Heavenly)”

(video to come)

The storms went in and out throughout the day, Francis Chan spoke in the gym over an aweful PA, but had a powerful message that I didn’t get to fully listen to.  David Crowder played and then we took off, having to get up early to head to our next show in Wichita Falls, TX.

Rock Wall and an epic Merch set up

Today was the fun filled carnival type of day.  It was great though, a really seemingly relaxed, well prepped, good people, fun show.  Even complete with some pictures:
